SHORT CENTER REPERTORY TO APPEAR AT CALIFORNIA STAGE IN MAY

Opening May 11 at California Stage in Sacramento, the Short Center Repertory will present Four by David Ives, an evening of comedy sketches that present four wildly different views of love and relationship.  Three of the sketches will be performed by the company, the principal role in the fourth will be presented in American Sign Language by well-known local actor Crom Saunders, who is Deaf, and voice-acted by veteran SCRep actor, Robert Maciejewski, with the company in all the supporting roles.  The company will also be joined by Regina Brink, an actress from the Sacramento Society for the Blind..

Artistic Director, James C. Anderson said of the new work, “This is a play about young moderns in love.  It’s very sophisticated writing, very funny lines, very New York. That’s unusual for us, but in other ways it is typical of the plays we choose to do.  ‘Persons with developmental disabilities in love and relationship!’  Yes! Like all the rest of us.  That’s what our company has been about from the beginning, challenging stereotypes and opening up the borders between ‘us’ and ‘them’. And in this engagement we are joined by excellent guest actors, one of whom is deaf and one of whom is blind, the audience will cross even more boundaries—laughing all the while, we hope.”

Four by David Ives will play Thursday and Friday evenings at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2p.m. for three weekends through May 27.  California Stage, a frequent presenter of the Rep Company, is at 25th and R Streets in downtown Sacramento.  Space is limited.   For reservations, call 916-.   General Admission: $15.  Seniors, Children, SARTA members, and Persons with disabilities: $10.  Special Preview performance on Thursday May 10 at 8 p.m: $5 for all seats.
